Panama City, the areas of Portobello and Colon are easily accessible, and are becoming increasingly popular, with a number of new marina projects cropping up in the surrounding areas.
Portobello and its surrounding areas play host to a number of ancient forts an castles, all of which have either been destroyed, or left in ruins. However, visiting them and learning about each of their history's provides a great day out. The most famous of these ruins are the Forts of Santiago and San Geronimo, both of which are only a 5 minute walk from the pier. Even closer than these are the "Customs House", built in 1630, the remains of the Church of La Merced and the Church of San Felipe, which was the last building to be constructed by the Spaniards. Inaugurated in 1814, one of its main attractions is the carved statue of Jesus. This statue is carved from a dark, almost black wood, which gives it it's name of "Black Jesus."
On October 21st of every single year, the town of Portobello comes together in a celebration and reliving of Portobello's "Black Jesus," with processions of people carrying candles, lining the streets as the statue is carried from the church by 80 men. This is a famous event, with many pilgrims from all over the world coming to follow the statue through the streets.
So its great for tourists, But what does it have to offer investors?
Location - The areas of Colon and Portobello are very accessible, with Panama City only a 1-2 hour drive, depending on the traffic. However,constructed has re-initiated on the Panama-Colon freeway.
